Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program

This is the home page of the Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley Conservation Authorities' joint project to deliver financial assistance to owners of homes, farms, businesses and other properties for best management practices in the most vulnerable areas of the two source protection areas, through the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program (ODWSP).

Property owners located closest to municipal wells and intakes can help protect drinking water sources through voluntary stewardship projects under the Ontario Drinking Water Stewardship Program.

If you are the owner of a home, farm, business or other property within 100 metres of a municipal well, or one kilometre of a surface water intake, or if your property is located within a two-year time-of-travel of a municipal well, you may be eligible for funding for:

  • Decommissioning old, abandoned wells and maintenance of existing wells
  • Septic system upgrades
  • Runoff and erosion protection
  • Agricultural best management practices
  • Fuel storage and containment (includes furnace oil tanks)
  • Chemical storage and containment (includes DNAPL - Dense non-aqueous phase liquids)
  • Manure storage
